Global Allies for Equitable Mental Health Research Funding

On June 8th 2021, we held a special online event, entitled Global Allies for Equitable Mental Health Research Funding.

Bringing together international research funders and outstanding local leaders, the event explored the benefits and best practices of placing local communities at the heart of global mental health research.

In November 2020, the IAMHRF released a report on the Inequities of Mental Health Research Funding, which revealed that less than 3% of funding is received by institutions in low- and middle-income countries, which comprise 80% of the world's population. It is time for a new conversation about mental health research funding that centers questions on how to raise North-South equity, increase global funding levels and diversify funding sources with an emphasis on local excellence, infrastructure and ownership for the benefit of all people in all parts of the world.
