Virtual Event: Mental Health Research Funding in Canada

In partnership with the Graham Boeckh Foundation and Mental Health Research Canada, we hosted a webinar discussing the implications of our 'Inequities' report for mental health research funding practices in Canada.

The event included a discussion panel with key individuals in the Canadian mental health community:

  • Mary Bartram, Director of Policy and Substance Use, Mental Health Commission of Canada (MHCC)
  • Chonnettia Jones, Vice President, Research, Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research (MSFHR)
  • Danielle Kemmer, Vice President, GBF, Executive Director, IAMHRF
  • Aristotle Voineskos, Vice President, Research, Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH)
  • Sam Weiss, Scientific Director, Institute of Neurosciences, Mental Health and Addiction (INMHA), Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR)

There were several key takeaways from the event including: the need for collaboration on a strategic plan for funding in Canada, the importance of involving people with lived experience and the benefits of investing more in mental health services research.
