IAMHRF exists to increase and accelerate the impact of mental health research. Our mission is to unite the sector so that we can tackle the most pressing challenges and celebrate successes, together. Our members include government funders, philanthropic foundations, and fundraising charities with a diverse scope and mandate. They fund across the full research spectrum from basic biomedical sciences to translational and health services research, to health promotion and illness prevention research. We combine our expertise and networks to advance how we fund and conduct research, driving progress across the field.

What we are currently working on
We map the mental health research funding landscape and celebrate our members' impact. We respond dynamically to sector and member needs, and are currently prioritising:
- Common Measures Initiative – striving to enhance the replicability and impact of mental health research by identifying common data elements for funders and journals to implement.
- Lived Experience Working Group – providing resources and support to help members develop and strengthen their lived experience practices.
- Advancing Digital Mental Health Working Group - drawing on collective learning to bridge gaps and identify opportunities for collaboration in this rapidly evolving field.
- Communications Working Group (new) - creating a storytelling framework to support mental health research advocacy, as part of a unifying narrative for the field.
Annual contributions of members
Member organisations pay an annual contribution in line with their research budget. Renewals are conducted annually, and the 2025 contribution levels are:
- US$2,200 for members with a research budget of up to US$5M

PARTNER WITH THE IAMHRF
We welcome the opportunity to foster relationships with organisations that align with our mission and provide opportunities for engagement on specific initiatives based on the following criteria:
- Journals/publishers,
- Learned societies/professional bodies,
- Research Institutes,
- Policy-makers and Government Agencies,
- International Aid Organisations,
- Other Collaborative Networks.
While involvement may be more focused, partners play an important role in advancing our projects and contributing to positive outcomes. We collaborate closely with potential partners to determine the level of involvement based on alignment with our shared goals and priorities, with membership being reviewed as defined in the MoU.
Partner membership is extended by invitation from the Executive Team on behalf of the membership. However, if you are interested in exploring a potential partnership with us, we would be happy to hear from you (admin@iamhrf.org).
Partnership Contribution
Given the collaborative nature of our partnership, there is no membership fee for partners. However:
- We encourage partners to support the costs of our activities through sponsorship or in-kind contributions, which can be discussed and agreed upon with our Executive Team.
- Partners may be required to cover attendance fees for conferences and networking events when invited. We will always communicate these details in advance to ensure transparency and clarity.
