From Idea to App: Design, Develop and Deploy Mental Health Tech

Following the successful workshopon Harmonised data last year, this workshop for early career researchers will focus on Agile Software Development and Co-Design Across the Research Lifecycle.

Have you got a research idea that could become a real tool? This workshop shows you how.

Whether you are a researcher who wants to build something, a developer working in health settings, or someone thinking about what happens to your software after the grant ends, this day is for you.

We will walk through the full journey: from writing the grant and assembling your team; through co-designing with users; building and testing your software; and navigating the tricky bits including data privacy, information governance, and what it means if your tool is classified as a medical device.

We will also get practical about the parts no one usually talks about: how do you keep your software alive when funding runs out, and what are your options beyond the research setting, including routes to market?

You’ll leave with:

· A clear mental model of the agile research software lifecycle.

· Practical insight into co-design with clinicians, patients, and end users.

· Guidance on compliance, medical device classification, and data governance.

· Routes to sustainability post-grant.

Who should come:

· Early career researchers in mental health, epidemiology, or data science.

· Research software engineers and developers in mental health settings.

· Anyone building or planning to build a digital tool as part of funded research.

This workshop is co-organised by MQ Mental Health Research, a member of IAMHRF.
