Symposium: What do we mean by evidence?
How choosing the right methods can improve the real-world relevance of mental health research Too often, research produces interventions that…
View eventWhat really matters to decision-makers in mental health research implementation? What’s the role of stories, and how does story-telling act in concert with data? How can we learn from successful initiatives?
We’ll be exploring these questions and more in our latest online symposium in collaboration with The Lancet Psychiatry and Grand Challenges Canada! This session is part of a series ofonline symposia inspired by The Lancet Psychiatry Commission on Transforming Mental Health Implementation Research. We’ve already looked at how systems thinking can transform implementation, explored what we mean by evidence – and next we’ll be looking at stories and data act together to inform decision-making. Â
Join us on Wednesday 22 October as session chairs Brittney Dudar and Gillian Mathurin go behind the scenes of the Friendship Bench journey from inspiring idea, to health systems integration.
We’re excited to welcome Thandiwe Mashunye, to share the Friendship Bench approach to telling compelling stories – and how this opened the door to funding, implementation and systems change.
We will also hear from Debra Machando (WHO) and Patience Mavunganidze (Mental Health Department MOHCC, Zimbabwe) about what resonated with them, and the role of different forms of evidence in their decision-making.
Alison Schafer will help us ground this discussion in the bigger picture – looking at challenges, learnings and opportunities from the WHO Special Initiative on Mental Health – and Beth McGinty and Matt Eisenberg will be on hand to help us make sense of everything in light of the recommendations of the Lancet Commission.Â
Registration details available soon. In the meantime, sign up for updates from IAMHRF. If you have any questions, please contact admin@iamhrf.org.
